SHIELD MRS. KENNEDY
Washington (AP)- Secret Service protection for Mrs. Kennedy and her two children will be provided for an undetermined period, a government source said today.
There is no legal provision for government protection for the widow of a president.

Somebody was so moved to have saved for months, Kansas City newspapers filled with articles following the assassination of John F. Kennedy in 1963, and I apparently was so moved by the newspapers too that I had to print pictures all over them. As well as all over a collection of even older (yellower) papers from the 1930's.
Flat black, gold and a bit of white to go around.

MRS. SLATES' BABY DIED
Ruby Alberta, 10 months old daughter, of Mrs. Nellie Slates, who lives on the Pat Lawless property on South Grand, died at 11 o'clock, Tuesday, of double pneumonia. Mrs. Slates has four older children. Her husband was fatally injured in a Horse Creek coal mine, some time ago. Later she had to be taken to the state hospital, where she remained, several weeks. The little body was taken to the River Funeral Home. Funeral services were announced to be held, Wednesday at the River Chapel, interment in the Forest Grove cemetery.

Above is an obituary from a Missouri newspaper printed in 1936....amid the weather report and peas, parsnips, carrots for all! But no potatoes. And I made sure to transcribe it letter for letter, comma for comma. I am entertained by the ads for frost proof cabbage (2 bunches for 15 cents!) and the dark, bold letters announcing RAISIN BREAD TOMORROW and the two digit phone numbers.
